Philips Mechanical Engineer in Shenzhen, China

Your role:

  • Responsible for the product definition (especially the mechanical and documentation aspects) in the development, realization of product release/lifecycle and aftercare of innovative products meeting quality and compliance, function, safety, security and cost targets.

  • Define product requirements and develops the work with focus on user and business requirements, compliance, quality and cost.

  • Analysis of product requirements and country legal requirements. Ensure full Product Safety Risk Management in a regulation compliant manner.

  • Develop new and optimize existing product concepts within cross-functional teams.

  • Develops high level and detailed designs in accordance with the product requirements and reference architecture requirements.

  • Work with cross-function team to support function development via defining and realizing models and test set-ups.

  • Lead and do the detail design of Key Components and support their realization.

  • Combines existing and/or purchased elements and parts into products.

  • Maintains an outside-in approach for the designs created.

  • Trade-off of product design specifications and interfaces, determine feasibility of potential solutions

  • Finalizes the design and integration and establish verification criteria to ensure key requirements could be validated within agreed constraints of the product design

  • Writes verification plans for the developed elements, parts and product. Tests, analyses and verifies the quality of the design.

  • Lead design topics and structured problem solving. Do the root-cause analysis of production problems and consumer complaints.

  • Lead and/or be involved in various parts of the product life cycle from Innovation, Quotation, to Development phases by working with the customer and business partners.

  • Responsible for delivering input in the planning process to the project manager. Draws up personal schedules and reports on progress in a structured and methodical way.

  • Manage the Product Documentation (the BOM and the Design History File). Ensures that documentation takes place according to the provided templates from the I2M processes.

  • Continuous improvement and maintenance on quality and cost for mass production products.

  • Participate and lead as key competence resource in multi-partner cross-functional and cross-cultural teams.

  • Some travelling, sometimes for several weeks, is part of this job.

You're the right fit if:

  • Bachelor’s degree and above in Mechanical Engineering

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience and knowledge of relevant technology and product features in one or more fields of competency for consumer products, such as heating & cooling, fluid mechanics, materials engineering, or in mechatronics and bio-mechanics. Relevant product domain experience in development and realization of new consumer products in a R&D environment is an added advantage.

  • Strong knowledge of product development methodology, traceability method, design methods and processes, system and functional safety requirements management.

  • Familiar with Design for Six Sigma, Lean development, FMEA, Solid Pro/E, Unigraphics or other CAD skill.

  • Knowledge of other disciplines with which co-operation takes place

  • Disciplined team worker. Accurate and quality minded, cost and quality conscious

  • Analytical, creative and abstract thinker. Confident communicator with ability to effectively present concepts and ideas both verbally and visually in English in a multi-site international setting. Proficient in Chinese and English writing and speaking.

  • Ability to interact with customers and business partners

  • Outstanding problem solving skills

  • Must be able to travel for business.

How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 4 days per week.

Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities.

Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.
